NTUA ‘s Remote Sensing Lab, PhD candidate Nikolas Papadopoulos had the opportunity to attend an inspiring week of training and collaboration at European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts – ECMWF, in Reading, UK!
📅 When: 17–21 March
🎯 Course: Data Assimilation & Machine Learning (https://events.ecmwf.int/event/436)
🤝 Organized by: ECMWF
This five-day course explored Data Assimilation (DA) techniques, blending traditional methods with state-of-the-art ensemble and hybrid approaches.
💡 Key Highlights:
✅ Deep dive into the fundamentals of DA and its crucial role in numerical weather prediction (NWP).
✅ Understanding error covariance modeling and uncertainty estimation.
✅ Exploring the integration of Machine Learning and DA—from improving model error estimation to leveraging generative AI for hybrid modeling.
Beyond the lectures, Nikolas participated in practical sessions, insightful discussions, and valuable exchanges with fellow participants. This was truly a week of learning, and professional growth!
